Yeah I got nothin too. Wonder how much longer before Half-Life becomes truly dead, ie completely unplayable without emulator. Though Valve does seem to release regular updates for it. Keeping it compatible with current tech perhaps.

Well, it is true that [SA]'s origins are with Half-Life 1 and it's mods.  But it doesn't limit what any of us play, including myself.  Unfortunately, my server is not powerful enough for source games.  Or many other modern games, so I will not be able to host anything with much greater demands then HL1 already does.  At least, not for a while anyway.

But, this doesn't mean that we can't still play other games together.  So I'm thinking we can expand the discussion areas of these forums to include other games of interest.  Any suggestions as to what games others would be interested in?

Same problem on many forums and many communities right now so don't feel bad Sandman. My forums have been dead for a year now and IA seems to be dyuing and the new leader thinks he can change things .. but so far .. still not much improvement. I can only suggest things that they are trying out:

  • Recored a group of you guys playing and put it on your Youtube channel and call is SA playtime or something .. dunno
  • Get a bunch of dedicated SA members together and perhaps some friends of SA to play a game and announce it on the Steam community site?

I really don't know what else to suggest. Unfortunately .. having an old server that cannot handle new games is holding you back.

You know, getting some of the members and fans of SA and/or NS in general together for a few rounds of gameplay, doesn't sound like a bad idea.  Actually sounds like fun.

I don't know about the video idea because to get good coverage, many players would have to submit demos.  Or, setup a HLTV to get coverage from everyone in one shot.  Either way, there would be a whole lot of video editing involved and that's more then I could handle myself.

I might be able to do a video for a massive (15 on 15) whichbot vs rcbot match on some fast paced combat or siege map.   Or maybe setup an HLTV so many people could just come watch the action.

Still it is a good idea and perhaps one of your members DO know how to help you with that. :) With IA we are lucky because we have Doodrun who knows how to do that. You would be surprised who you could find within your community that might know this stuff. :)

Hmm unfortunately these days most if not all my gaming is done from my 360. What my laptop can handle and what it should be able to handle seem to be two different things for some odd reason. I was playing (or attempting anyway) L4D2 a week or two back and it was just horrendous lag. I am hoping that the driver update I got will help fix it.

If anyone is actually on Xbox Live I am pretty easy to find being the only RaphaelSolo in gaming it seems. Very rare that I ever come across another one. Who knew that a name I picked 15 years ago would still be unique?

Yeah, I know that feeling.  My laptop struggles with HL2, L4D and TF2 so you have to turn all the graphic settings way down.  But then again, it's pretty old now.

My graphics are turned all the way down, still lags between playable and not. It is the one thing I do like about consoles above all else. I know that what I get for it will be playable.... and in theory not have to be upgraded every 2 years.

I can agree with you on one point.  What you buy for a particular console, will play worry free.

Cons with console games are:

Games can only be played on a console they were made for.
Multiplayer is limited to users with similar consoles.
Storage space is limited and will need to be upgraded.
Very selective and limited support.

Now I'm not saying that PC is perfect.  Far from it.

PC is constantly under attack from malicious software.
Is out dated or obsolete the moment you get it.
Can cost a small fortune to repair, replace or upgrade.

But after it's all said and done, I still prefer the advantages that PC has over console.  And believe it or not, you can buy a decent desktop PC that can play the latest and greatest game titles for the same cost (if not, less then) a new gaming console.  Sure, you will need to upgrade something at some point.  It's inevitable.  Nothing lasts forever.
