So, I was looking up the specs on that main board. And it says it has 1 RGB header. I assume it's a 4 pin 12v nonaddressable header? The spec sheet doesn't specify. The case that KT is looking at (the RGB version) has a stand-alone RGB controller built in. You just push a button to select the lighting mode you want. But has a 3 pin 5v addressable connector to use with your mainboard. I'm wondering though, what CPU cooler are you using?
I'm aware of the full specs of the I5 8400 CPU. 6 core, no hyperthreading and no factory overclock. It does have a boost clock though. But still, a stock Intel box cooler should be enough to get the job done. But just barely. As I though KT. The RGB header on your board is 12 volts. If you decide to deck out your system with RGB lighting, make sure it's 12 volt compliant. It will ruin RGB lights that are only 5 volt. The easiest way to tell the difference is look at the plug. 4 pins = 12 volt. 3 pins = 5 volt.

It could be required if she decided to hook her speakers into the back of the monitor for now because that jack should work fine (if it's enabled) unlike the front audio jack and it's not to hard for her to get at.
Also if she doesn't end up using the monitor's audio out then disabling the Nvidia audio driver might be done for less confusion.
Also, silly question but, is staring at a cold cathode fluorescent lighting for a long time bad on the eyes?

And that's fine. But keep in mind, that small barrel jack on the monitor, and the PC's front I/O are designed for "headphones". They can work with small speakers, sure. But won't provide much power to drive a set of speakers efficiently. Plus, you will lose some software control of them from the PC itself. Use that method if you must KT, but I would highly recommend using the green speaker jack directly from the sound card. That port is meant to drive speakers.
