That is odd. Have you tried power cycling the router? You didn't mention if you did that or not.As for the non related question, I noticed that as well the past few nights. I don't know what's causing it and I am also having a issue with abyss web server not finding the assigned port during bootup. Maybe the 2 problems are related?
Ok. You say that you got the network working again after you replaced an ethernet cable, correct? So I assume that you're talking about the cable from the modem to the router? And I also assume that there is at least one computer connected directly to the router, and it has internet access? So what exactly is happening with the wifi? Is there a wifi signal? Can you login to your wifi access point? I would need much more detail to be able to understand.
This Cable modem is also a router? Anyway, the ethernet cable went straight from there to the PC case.
When I first put it in NO it did not work. I left it and gave up after calling Dave. When I went over there again yesterday to pick up milk it was magically working again. Dave thinks corrosion given that the humidity is extremely high at my mom's and the HDD had corrosion in it as it is.
By humidity her mom lives across the street from the Detroit river.
At least twice the hard drive in that computer has crashed (corruption) where the main problem was oxidization of the connections. clean the connections, do a disk check to correct errors, working again. my guess is the contacts in the ethernet port are getting oxidized also.
Extremely high humidity you say? As in you can see a fog inside the apartment or condensation is collecting on surfaces like morning dew on a cars windshield? Might be worth getting a decent de-humidifier. Or maybe a couple of them since your reporting corrosion happening to delicate electronic devices. Water and dust are electronics worst enemies.
Now this leads to high concern for her moms health and well being. Having that extreme level of humidity in her place of residence, humidity so high that it can corrode and/or damage electronic components, is also high enough to promote dangerous mold growth. Thus why I pushed the thought of a de-humidifier. Or better yet, several of them!
