It's cool I've just started to mess with it. a lot of the games that look cool have  higher requirements for the video card than I have gtx 1060 at the moment actually running a 970 till I change my MB over to the ryzen 9. But I might do the MB swap today. Half Life Alyx is half price for a couple more days.

There is a "Steam VR Fest" on right now so I think I'm gonna grab Half Life Alyx as my first AAA VR title.

I'm not sure describing it really does it any justice, imagine being cut off from sound and audio, an the computer takes over that input with a 3d environment and immersive sound while closing you off from the real world within the gaming environment. Best I can attempt to describe it, But it really has to be experienced.
It is a different gaming experience to any thing that is not VR. not to say everything VR is a great experience. But there are things that stand out, and even on an older system (Rift Touch) like mine, there are some programs that can get immersive which is the whole point.
By the way, when you see game play of a VR title on Youtube it is what is rendered on the monitor not the same as seen though the VR headset, so that footage is not really a fair representation of the game play.
It is best put as what is capturable as game play rather than what the player sees.

VR headsets have dual displays, one for each eye.  And it's literally right in your face.  It basically renders the images you see this way to help give you more depth perception.  They are supposed to provide a better, more immersive gaming experience by cutting you off from the outside world.  As Dave tried to explain, it's an experience that you really can't describe with words.  You have to experience it for yourself.  But keep this in mind.  If you are highly susceptible to motion sickness, VR headsets can make you toss your cookies.

Motion sickness can be brought on in 3d thru a number of factors, and different people have a different tolerance to it. at this point in VR's evolution it is still a factor. one day if certain motion movement restrictions are made into industry wide standards (would probably take years of barf inducing repetitive motion testing to determine  where relative limits exist to even establish a baseline. but there are certain known triggers that most game makers know to steer clear of, for the most part. Unless they are trying to promote a "vomit comet" ride.
I personally haven't had a barf inducing moment yet but if I actually did I 'd see if there was a fix for it or failling there would remove the game. Puking's not on my list of things to do while gaming.

I have one of those VR headsets that will take a cell phone.  It's a HooToo Ultra VR Box.  You literally just install your cell phone in to it while it's running a VR game or app.  And one of the apps I had was a demo of a roller coaster.  As you so well put it "vomit comit" ride.  LOL

Yeah, kinda sounds like a good first experience to say away from in VR.

Not all VR games need you to move around a lot.  But a fair number of them do need plenty of space for you to move around in.

Most games list if you have to stand or can sit or have minimum space requirements. A fair amount of cool sounding games I've had to over look based on can I play it in my available space. In the future I plan to have a roomier space set out for VR.
In most games you from one prospective or another control the player in the game. In VR, its more like you take the place of the player in the game.
