The players playing against the bots if the pros were at a stand-off. Do people still play on the servers if it is that hard?

You sure?  That map is frustrating to play now.  During the last play test.  There was 6 humans vs 7 marine bots.  3 of the human players are NS league pros.  It was a grueling standoff at marine start that lasted over an hour on its own.  Never mind the other hour or so it took to capture and stabilize the other hives.

Well on that map, Marine spawn is pretty easy to defend.  And I had place 3 portals to help the bots build MS first.  So they will spawn in waves.  lol.  But yes.  NS players of all ranks love the challenge.

Surprised even still all these years later. Your server must be one of the very few remaining so you must get a LOT of people. I should install HLSW again sometime to take a look at how active it gets lol.

It's not like it was in the old days.  There are only just a few servers left now.  But there still are a few die hards out there with fond memories of the original game.
