Microsoft is pretty confident they can make everyone do as they want by now. Win 10 support ending will push more to Win 11.

Then I will stay on Win 10 or find another option if need be.  I will NOT be going back to Win 11.

How was your experience with Windows 11 before you installed Windows 10? I forget what my idea was when I asked this on the Win 10 updates but if we eventually are going to be forced to Windows 11 I want to know what you hated the most about it.

It started out with being forced to create a MS account in order to just install the OS.  I tried a number of workarounds at the time and none of them actually worked.  Even after getting into windows, you are still unable to create another user account that is a local user.  But it didn't end there.  Every administrative action you make, requires authorization through the MS network.  Which is a several addition step process.  A good amount of networking configurations that we have come accustomed to in previous versions of windows have been changed, and some even hidden.  It was such a frustrating experience when I couldn't even setup network sharing that can work across multilabel OS platforms.  That was when I reached my boiling point and had to install Win 10.

Now here is the odd thing.  I ran windows 10 install from within windows 11.  But chose the full install option.  Full format and all.  I had purchased a cheap win 10 CD key just prior to doing this.  But windows 10 must have picked up the already authorized windows 11 key and just installed like I was running an update.  There is no trace of win 11 on the system anywhere.  But no CD key or windows activation was required at any time.  After windows 10 was fully installed, activated and updated, I started getting relentless prompts to update to windows 11 again.  So, to fix that, I went into the BIOS and disabled the TPM and secure boot options.  Windows update now reports that my Intel 13700K system does not meet the minimum system requirements to run windows 11.   ;D

Haha that is sweet! Now I understand the full experience and don't blame you! I can see your frustration with that and don't blame you. What an annoyance! That has been very educational and I am glad you shared. That is what I wanted to know! Thank you :)

I didn't notice this until later.  But when I installed a BIOS update on my 9th gen Intel system, (rom version 2004, and then again with 2101) that it quietly enabled the firmware TPM.

I installed the BIOS updates, then go back to the BIOS after it's completed and reconfigure some personal settings like XMP and my overclock settings and all.  I made sure that rebar is on and firmware TPM is off.  Then let the computer reboot.  The computer then power cycles 3 to 4 times as it goes through memory training.  This is a normal process when enabling XMP profiles.  It basically unlocks the full advertised speed of your ram.  But during that memory training process (both times) firmware TPM and secure boot got re-enabled.  Even the main board venders are trying to get everyone ready to install windows 11 if the system can support it.

It was natural to assume that the 13th gen Intel system would have firmware TPM enabled by default.  Windows 11 "supposedly" has a better CPU core scheduler than windows 10.  And with a CPU that has 16 cores / 24 threads, 8 of which being efficiency cores, that core management is required.  I guess that would be nice if the user is concerned about power management?  But the fact that windows 10 can manage them just fine, leads me to believe this whole core schedule thing is just another hype train point to make users want to upgrade to windows 11.

I think how they all see it is it is inevitable so let's do it. No thought of hyping it. To them it is already a go!

It certainly seems that way.  It's become more evident lately with the push for AI.  GPU's with Cuda cores (or any RT hardware support) will already have some AI support.  But the next generation of CPU's will have AI accelerators baked in.  And MS has already jumped on that bandwagon when they released Co-Pilot for Windows 11.

Thats odd.  None of my windows 10 systems show that feature.  It must be an Nvidia RTX thing?  I can't confirm that because I have only one system with an Nvidia GTX card.  Everything else has AMD cards.

No it is a Microsoft thing. I unchecked it in that menu to stop having the image that suddenly showed up with 2 updates back on the right side of my clock.

Ah possibly! Lately it seems you have to keep looking for new bloat with every Windows update anymore :(

Ya I am sticking to Windows 10 as long as I can. They can't pull the same trick they did last time saying "THIS will be the final one now" as there is already talk of work on Windows 12 (I have been too busy to keep up this time). If they didn't want a repeat of Windows 7, they should have not lied about 10 not being the final version and just updates and not major changes to the Windows' interface usability and security and all.

"..so your search history is safe .. for now" ... Yeah... Microsoft .. we trust them to keep us safe... Yet they blame users for security issues in our own experiences in Windows. ...  but how could they screw up so bad that even passwords were NOT encrypted but in PLAIN TEXT?!?

I hear ya.  I too and sticking to win10 as long as I can.  Thankfully, Linux devs are still working hard on making a viable alternative to windows.
